Description

The IB VL 12 is divided into three compartments spaced 20 mm apart. The compartments are accessible through the creep-in opening and through the opening in the partition. This recessed stone is ideal for bats as a summer home, mating habitat and, in mild winters, as a winter home. Which species use the recessed stone depends on the area where the recessed stone is applied and what species already occur there.

When one stone per site is used, it serves as either a summer home or a mating enclosure. The built-in stone is also suitable as a maternity enclosure, however, this requires connecting several (at least three) stones together to create a larger space. Switching can be performed with multiple IB VL 12 products but can also be switched with one or more IB VL 16 products. As a result, fewer creep-in openings become visible in the facade.

As a summer, mating and maternity enclosure (when at least 3 are connected) possible for:

  • Common, rough and small dwarf bat
  • Latent flyer
  • Bicolored bat

In mild winters, possible use by:

  • Common dwarf bat

For bats, the more space they have available to them the better!

The bat recessed brick can be used in new construction or renovation. These can be masonry facades as well as front facades. The face of the recessed brick (with the slot) is placed flush with the face of the facade. The front can also be set back slightly so that it can be finished with stone strips This will leave only the indentation opening visible in the facade. The recessed brick can be applied to any wind direction.

  • Place the recessed brick as high as possible in the facade (aim for the optimum height).
  • Keep the approach route to the hive clear. Do not allow trees or shrubs to grow in front of the wall or place blinds or the like above the recessed brick.
  • Do not place the recessed brick over a door, window or balcony due to bat droppings
  • The location of the recessed stone should not be illuminated, so do not place lights near or on the recessed stone. When multiple stones are used per site (in combination with the IB VL 16), they serve as summer or mating habitat and possibly as small maternity quarters.

Built-in closets are often difficult to access. Still, it is good to check after a while to make sure the cabinet is still clean inside. Often pollution occurs in the hive from such things as moths and other insects. A flexible long brush can be used to remove these contaminants. Note: Always check carefully before cleaning that there are no bats in the closet!
